About the Agroforestry Sector

Grupo Alterosa’s rural activities are managed by the companies Sorel – Sociedade Reflorestadora S/A, Florestas Ipiranga S/A, Floral Agropecuária, Morada Agroflorestal, and Pontal do Junco Agropecuária. In 1969, we began planting and managing renewable forests to supply the Group’s industry with its main raw material: charcoal."

Today, we hold approximately 48,000 hectares of land, of which more than 14,500 hectares are maintained as preserved areas, actively contributing to biodiversity conservation."

Our reforestation consists of clonal plantations of Eucalyptus spp., whose high productivity has significantly reduced the area required to meet Siderúrgica Alterosa’s charcoal demand, while also allowing the surplus to be sold to other companies."

Our reforested areas are strategically distributed across 14 municipalities in Minas Gerais within the São Francisco river basin and its tributaries, with 90% of them located within 200 km of the plant."

We also invest in large-scale crops irrigated by center pivots, diversifying our activities to mitigate market risks and optimize the use of our natural resources. We currently prioritize crops such as corn, soybeans, and dry beans."

We seek to optimize the use of our rural properties by raising cattle in our forests and finishing them in a confinement system.

All these activities are conducted with full respect for the environment and the community, generating local jobs and income, preventing rural exodus, contributing to the tax system, and developing our employees. We also support local communities through initiatives that promote cultural and associative activities.
