SCOPE DEFINITION

Siderúrgica Alterosa has established the scope of its integrated quality and environment management system.
The following aspects have been taken into consideration:

• Both internal and external issues related to company’s purpose and strategic approach, which could affect its capability of achieving the target results of its quality and environment management system, as well as environmental conditions that affect or could affect the company;
• Stakeholders’ expectations and needs (i.e., requirements);
• Legal and stakeholders’ requirements that are relevant for the quality and environment management system;
• The company’s organizational units, functions and physical boundaries;
• The company’s activities, products and services;
• The company’s authority and capability of controlling and influencing;
• The life cycle outlook for its products.

The scope applies to Siderúrgica Alterosa S.A. within the physical boundaries of its plant located at Rua Pequi, 189, bairro Santos Dumont, Pará de Minas, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Moreover, we understand that, from a life-cycle perspective, Siderúrgica Alterosa’s product life cycle starts with primary activities, essentially those related to natural resources, such as forestry and mining, followed by pig iron production processes and ending with the use of the product by foundries and steel mills. In the latter stage, the pig iron is remelted and its physical and chemical characteristics are significantly changed by adding new chemical elements during the melting process, which is the final destination of the product. Its main byproducts (coal fines and slag) are further processed by licensed organizations by melting them and changing their physical and chemical characteristics, which is their final destination.

Therefore, the scope of Siderúrgica Alterosa’s integrated quality and environment management system is:

Production of nodular pig iron, seminodular pig iron, foundry pig iron and basic pig iron in its plant located at Rua Pequi, 189, Para de Minas, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil.

All Siderúrgica Alterosa’s activities, products and services within this scope are included in its integrated quality and environment management system.
